We have free will. That means that God is not going to interfere in our lives unless we ask. We don't have to beg. His Word says that anything we ask, he will give. But, after asking, we have to believe that we have received it. Even if we can not see it manifested in our lives yet. It is our belief that allows it to be real. Don't ask again. When we repeat our prayers we show God that we do not believe (either we don't believe that he answers prayers or we don't believe he listens to us). Instead, in every subsequent prayer, thank the Lord for answering that first prayer.
Elsewhere on this site you will find guides for helping you to establish the faith foundation in your life. The Holy Spirit provides each of us with all the faith we will ever need to manifest from God. But most of us can use help in tapping into that faith.
Below, are some guidelines to effective prayer along with some samples of prayers for particular situations. Use them as is, or build one that more specifically meets your needs. Set a goal to practice the presence of God.
Thoughts about prayer:
Prayer requires a relationship with God.
Effective prayer is very powerful. Confess your faults and pray for one another.
Heaven is always talking. Jesus always lives.
We pray to get wisdom and understanding.
Pray to fellowship with God.
Pray to “speak to the mountain”.
If we ask, according to his plan, he hears and we have it granted. 1John 5:14
Keep a prayer journal (date, time, prayer details). Note any thoughts which come to mind – these may be communications from heaven.
Say it. Listen to it. Pray. Receive revelation.
Pray the “answer”.
Don’t pray for healing. Pray for remedy of what is causing the sickness.
Prayer is the practice ground of life. When you are in a situation where prayer is desperately needed, you will be ready because you practiced yielding and flowing with the Holy Spirit.
When you have the “nudge” from the Holy Spirit, you don’t need a push from your own spirit.
I want to spend time each day fixing my mind on God and speaking out my love and gratitude to Him. Then I will stand on the Word until it manifests.
Sample prayers:
Good morning Lord. I love you with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and strength and, with your help, I’m going to be a good steward of that commandment today: I love my neighbor as myself, cause that’s what pleases you, and you said that when I do those things pleasing in your sight, that whatever I ask in your name, you give to me. You have the petitions that I ask because I know you hear me because your word says your ears are open to the righteous and your eyes are over them. And I am a righteous person because I’m the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and I want to thank you for it this morning Lord. I’m so blessed. Oh Glory to God. Thank God I don’t have any debts. Thank God I’m healed in my body.
Thank God, He loves me. I know he loves me, he cares for me and he says if I’ll roll all my cares over on him and humble myself under the mighty hand of God, he cares for me and he’ll exalt me in due time. And there is coming a day when there will be no debts in my life and no pain in my body. He healed me 2000 years ago.
Lord, I am asking you what to do and I want to follow you. Lord, please keep me from stumbling and falling. (“Only God can keep you from falling” Jude 1:24)
(Thank God out loud for everything) I thank you Lord that my one leg doesn’t hurt, that my arms and fingers work fine and do not hurt. I am so grateful for my house and my porch and my pajamas. Lord I’m grateful that Your hand is on my back right now and Your healing power is working in me. I’m so thankful that Jesus went to the cross for me and that I get to spend eternity in heaven with You. I’m grateful that my future is bright and full of Your blessings.
Lord I praise You and thank You for the covenant of peace. I refuse to let the devil take that peace from me in this situation. Lord I know Your Word says that You are with me in trouble and You deliver me. Christ Jesus is my wisdom. So I’m asking You now to reveal Your wisdom in me in this matter. Please reveal to me how to pray and skillfully use my faith (then pray in spirit – tongues – and listen for wisdom).
Father, I believe You have a plan for my life. What is it You want for me? I release myself to You and trust You. Whatever Your plan is, I want to fulfill it. I pray for insight, ideas and concepts.
Lord, I reject all fear of the future.
Lord, You can count on me. I love You and I am here to serve You. I deny my own interests. I lay aside the pleasures of this life, and I make myself available to You today. What do You want me to do?
